The Winter Culture Round-Up

With twinkling lights glistening in the trees and the scent of mulled wine filling the air, South Bank comes alive in the winter season. But aside from the incredible range of festive events and pop-ups to enjoy, there’s also a stellar line-up of theatre productions, concerts and exhibitions not to be missed.

Here’s a quick round-up of the top events at the National Theatre, Southbank Centre, BFI and across the South Bank to fill your diary this winter.

 

 

  • Witness for the Prosecution

    When
    Tuesday to Saturday, 7.30pm
    Matinees on Thursday and Saturday at 2.30pm and Sunday at 3pm.

    Now in its sixth year, Witness for the Prosection has captured the imagination of thousands gripped by the case of Leonard Vole, accused of murder in cold blood. The twists and turns of the case are played out in a spectacular courtroom setting inside the atmospheric London County Hall as prosecution battles defence and witnesses take the stand to give their shocking testimonies. Director Lucy Bailey thrillingly places the audience in the thick of the action as Christie’s enthralling tale of justice, passion and betrayal unfolds around them.

  • LUCIAN FREUD: PLANT PORTRAITS

    What
    An exhibition that brings together a selection of rarely or never-before-seen paintings and etchings of potted plants and gardens, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth.

    The undisputed master of the modern nude, Lucian Freud was also a prolific painter of plants. This exhibition will show how integral plants were to Freud’s work, exploring his ability to capture their elusive essence in original ways while giving them the same life as his human subjects.

  • STRANGE CLAY: CERAMICS IN CONTEMPORARY ART
