February is the month of love and South Bank has plenty to offer all starry-eyed lovers this Valentine’s Day. Keep things low-key with a walk along the riverside or go above and beyond with a spin on the London Eye. Book for a romantic dinner or head out to the movies to see a classic romance.
Here's a look at some Valentine’s Day specials to look forward to in South Bank.
For some serious wow factor plan a stayover at London Marriott County Hall and enjoy The Valentine's Experience. Book into one of the luxurious Balcony Suites and you’ll be greeted with sparkling wine and hand-crafted chocolates in-room on arrival.

Perfect for a special occasion dinner, you simply can’t beat the drop-dead gorgeous views of London’s iconic riverside skyline at OXO Tower Restaurant and Brasserie. Both the Restaurant and the Brasserie are offering special Valentine’s Day set menus accompanied by live music throughout the evening.
The OXO Tower Restaurant's three-course fine dining menu includes a half bottle of premium Champagne and costs £150 per person, while the three-course menu at the Brasserie costs £100 per person and includes half a bottle of Harvey Nichols Champagne.
Stay at Sea Containers London this Valentine’s Day and whisk your loved one away for a night to remember. Enjoy breakfast in bed, Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries in room on arrival, a complimentary upgrade to the next room category (subject to availability), late check-out (subject to availability) and a special 'love potion' from the hotel's agua Spa.
Cosy up in your room, head to the bar for cocktails, enjoy fine dining at the restaurant or book in for a romantic Valentine's screening of The Notebook at the hotel cinema.
Contemporary style and exquisite food come together at the buzzing Skylon restaurant at Southbank Centre. The five course Valentine’s Day menu costs £110 per person and includes mouth-watering dishes like cod cheek risotto, artichoke tortellini with white truffle and chive emulsion, and Dorset crab tart. For dessert choose from a duo of chocolate and strawberry mousse hearts or a pink Champagne cheesecake.
On Saturday 11 February Green Room serves a special Valentine’s edition of their bottomless brunch with a DJ playing lovers’ anthems and a new Valentine’s-themed cocktail, the Love Bird, on the menu made with Pampero Blanco rum, almond syrup, pineapple, hibiscus, and maraschino liqueur. On Tuesday 14 February the Love Bird cocktail is also on special offer – you can try one for just £5 by downloading a voucher here.
This month the BFI Southbank continues its rundown of the 100 Greatest Films of All Time and there are some major romantic classics on the line-up. February 14th highlights include Bogart and Bergman in the iconic Casablanca, Jean Luc Godard’s youthful and mischievous tale of lovers-on-the-run, Breathless, and L’Atalante, a timeless portrayal of love and working class life in Paris from 1934.
Love is in the air at Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar at London Marriott County Hall this February. From 13 to 17 February the Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar presents a romantic sharing steak set menu that includes a 500g “Heart” sirloin steak with a selection of three sides and two sauces. The menu also includes a welcome Valentine’s cocktail and to finish a rose lemon meringue pie (£95 per couple).
Experience a special Valentine’s set menu (£69 per person) at the luxurious Sea Containers Restaurant. The evening begins with a glass of bubbly on arrival, followed by a delicious three-course meal. Dishes on the menu include burrata with burnt carrots, dill and Yorkshire Triangle rhubarb, Chateaubriand with buttered potato, Treviso radicchio, cauliflower and port jus, and a mouth-watering chocolate and passion fruit mousse with raspberries and cocoa nib ice cream to finish.
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of James Cameron’s epic action-packed romance and relive the tragic story of the ‘ship of dreams’ on the largest screen in Britain. James Cameron’s multiple-Oscar-winning Titanic is being re-released in time for this year’s Valentine’s Day and in 3D, making it even more immersive.
Marsha at Gabriel’s Wharf is a cute and cosy spot with one of the best riverside views, a perfect destination for a Valentine’s meal. On Saturday 11 February and Sunday February 12th, Marsha hosts a special Valentine’s bottomless brunch. Meanwhile, on Tuesday 14 February, love birds can book a special three-course Valentine’s dinner for £30. The Valentine's Day menu includes some of Marsha’s most popular dishes such as chicken souvlaki and bang bang cauliflower. If you are just popping in for a drink, on Valentine’s they are also serving up two cocktails for just £7.50.
On stage from 14 February to 1 April, National Theatre presents the new play Romeo and Julie, a modern love story set in Wales. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the play follows two Welsh teens, raised a few streets apart but from entirely different worlds, who crash into first love and are knocked off their feet. A new production by critically acclaimed director Rachel O’Riordan and Welsh playwright Gary Owen.
