Television Looks at Film
Relations between cinema and the upstart medium of television were initially frosty. But soon broadcasters found diverse and imaginative ways to report on the art of the big screen. The BFI introduce a special season of British TV programmes about cinema.
Following on from the success of their first Broadcasting the Arts season last year (devoted to John Berger), this time BFI Southbank present screenings and events focussing on the various ways the small screen has reported on the people, places and products of the big screen.
Highlights of the season include, a panel discussion with film critic and TV presenter Danny Leigh, a compilation of location reports, and a presentation on how magazine-style film programmes have covered the medium.
