Sure we all love spicy street food and decadent afternoon teas - and South Bank definitely has plenty of these on offer! But sometimes... the only thing that really hits the spot is a proper roast dinner with all the trimmings. Fluffy Yorkshire puddings, lashings of gravy, crisp roast potatoes, piles of veggies and the finest roasted meats - you can't go wrong with a classic Sunday roast.

The Mulberry Bush

For one of the best pub Sunday roasts in the area, look no further than The Mulberry Bush, a cosy neighbourhood pub on Upper Ground just behind the Gabriel's Wharf courtyard. Their famous Sunday plates are piled high with a large choice of veggies and massive yorkies and there's the option of 21-day aged Angus rump of beef, roasted pork belly, roast Somerset chicken or for vegetarians a roasted butternut squash and feta tart.

For when you really want to treat yourself, the Sea Containers Restaurant on the ground floor of the luxurious 5-Star Sea Containers Hotel is the perfect choice. On weekends their sumptuous Sunday Brunch menu includes the option of enjoy a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. Brasserie Blanc

Set back behind Royal Festival Hall on Belvedere Road, the elegant French dining spot Brasserie Blanc pride themselves on serving up classic dishes that make the most of the best British seasonal ingredients. Their Sunday Roast offering is no exception. Doggett’s Coat & Badge

If you want a view of the Thames with your Sunday lunch, head to the Doggett’s Coat & Badge, the Nicholson’s pub next to Blackfriars Bridge. The Green Room

For a slightly different vibe to the classic Sunday pub experience, we love The Green Room behind National Theatre. If the weather is in your favour, their huge garden is a great place to kick back and enjoy a long lazy Sunday lunch in the sun. When it comes to the food, their roasted meats are beautifully prepared (choose from roast pork belly, chicken or beef), and their vegetarian offering – a rich Beetroot, mushroom and walnut Wellington served with lashings of vegan gravy – is among the best around!

This lively gastropub on Stamford Street, not far from the Oxo Tower Wharf, is known for its excellent selection of draught ales and beers and bottle craft brews. On Sundays roast lunches are order of the day. Choose from 28 day aged Sirloin of beef, Suffolk chicken crown with sage and onion stuffing or for a mear-free option the butternut squash, cashew and chestnut wellington with vegan gravy.
