What's on in South Bank This Autumn

September 23rd, 2020 | by Emily Stedman

Autumn in South Bank

The air is getting crisper, scarves are slowly being dug out of the closet: Autumn is almost here. We’re getting excited for a whole host of great events across South Bank these next few weeks and months, with a mixture of amazing in-person and digital events to make sure everyone can get involved, wherever you are.

For full safety guidelines at each of the venues, please see their individual websites for further information.

  • London Film Festival at the BFI

The London Film Festival is going partly digital this year! With screenings taking place at the BFI Southbank and films going up on the BFI Player, there’s no better time to see some of the most exciting new releases in cinema. The BFI’s October programme also includes a mixture of family favourites and new national releases: for tickets to the LFF and the October programme, please see here

  • Death of England: Delroy

The doors to the iconic National Theatre stage are finally open again! ‘Death of England: Delroy’ is a follow-on to the incredible ‘Death of England’, which was performed at the beginning of this year; performances begin on October 21st, and there are 200 £20 tickets available for each performance. Make sure not to miss out on grabbing a ticket when they go on sale October 2nd.

  • Visit the Lady with the Lamp

With 2020 being Florence Nightingale’s 200th anniversary, there’s no better time to visit the Florence Nightingale Museum here in South Bank and learn more about her incredible legacy. The Museum recently received a 100% satisfaction rate on safety and security from visitors; we think even Florence herself would be proud.

  • Southbank Centre Autumn Season

This year the Southbank Centre’s Autumn Season, ‘Inside Out’ has gone fully digital, with tickets available for over 30 incredible online events spanning art, literature and music, broadcast live from royal Festival Hall and beyond. If you’re walking around South Bank, also make sure not to miss their new free outdoor exhibition, ‘Everyday Heroes’, which celebrates the pandemic's key workers.

  • 'Refugees' Season at IWM

‘Refugees’ is a powerful new season beginning the 24th of September at IWM London, which explores refugee experiences throughout history and ongoing issues faced by those affected. Make sure not to miss legendary artist Ai WeiWei’s takeover of the iconic atrium with his ‘History of Bombs’ artwork. Tickets are free but must be prebooked to ensure social distancing.

  • Dante's In Furlough

The Vaults are back, with a brand new socially distanced show! In 'Dante's In Furlough', the Devil is getting hitched, and given what's going at the moment, there’s no better time to accept an invitation down to the underworld. The show is strictly 18+ and limited to groups of 8, so make sure to head down to Leake Street Arches for a 'hellishly' good time!

  • Evening Cruise

What better way is there to see the sights of London, than sailing open air down the river with a drink in hand? Sail off into the evening while the rest of the world goes by on one of City Cruises's Evening Cruises: you will see great views of London's riverside landmarks and enjoy the unique atmosphere of a trip through the heart of central London, and you can choose between being on the open-air upstairs deck or in the saloon, which has big windows.
