REBEL SOUNDS LIVE BELGRADE: TECHNO MUSIC AND GRASSROOTS RESISTANCE
Part of IWM London's Culture Under Attack season, the next installment of Rebel Sounds Live focuses on the Belgrade radio station B92 FM, whose rebellious spirit helped inspire the population against the oppressive government of 1990's Serbia.
A full day of events kicks off at midday, with the full list of events as follows;
12pm: Atrium Performance
Serbian broadcaster and B92 DJ Gordan Paunovic will create an organic sound installation, as he mixes field recordings, interviews and music from the period of the NATO bombings of Belgrade in 1999.
2pm: Atrium Performance
A unique live soundscape mixed by Serbian superstar DJ Tijana T, which captures moments of madness and creativity during the 100 days of free parties that shook Serbia and activated the youth resistance movement against the Milosevic regime.
3pm: Talk and Q&A
Gordan Paunovic, Tijana T and Dragan Ambrozic - who were central to the changing face of Serbia’s youth during and after the NATO bombings of Belgrade - discuss how clubbing and music created a force of resistance within Serbia’s youth. This eventually helped to change the tide of opinion against the Milosevic regime and lead the way for a more open government. Hosted by journalist and broadcaster Kate Hutchinson.
