A Quick Bite to Eat on South Bank

October 4th, 2019 | by Tom Harrow-Smith

A Quick Bite to Eat on South Bank

South Bank is filled with a multitude of fantastic restaurants, bars and cafes serving up quality food, making it the perfect place to take your time relaxing with a great meal. But, as we all know, life isn't always kind enough to grant us enough time for a leisurely meal, however, that doesn't mean you have to skimp on quality or portion. Whether you have just half an hour before catching a performance at The National Theatre, looking for somewhere new for a lunchtime treat or simply want to grab a tasty morsel on the go, South Bank has you covered.

  • Express Lunch at OXO Tower Bar

The team at OXO Tower Bar know that your time is precious, especially your sacred lunch hour. That's why they've designed a scrumptious Express Lunch menu that you can enjoy with stunning London views from their rooftop setting, much better than views of your office or computer screen, eh?

With five options to choose from, the decision will be harder than you'd think when you find out what's on offer; Bucatini pasta with wild garlic and portobello mushrooms; a moreish slaw burger, made with Wagyu beef and served with spicy sweet potato chips and sesame mayonnaise; battered fish sandwich and chips; roasted salmon salmon with smoked tomato and courgette; or try their new vegan burger with truffle ‘mayo’ and chips.

Who said a quick lunch didn't need to be indulgent?

Some of London's top street food vendors have set up in this South Bank hotspot, including Big V, Crosstown Doughnuts, The Frenchie and Kolkati.

Plus, if you're in need of some sustenance after hours, vendors continue to sell their food well into the evening, with The Spread open until 9pm from Wednesday to Saturday.

  • Express Lunch at The Green Room

You may not be dining with celebrities as the name of this neighbourhood bar and diner suggests, but you're sure to be fed like an A-Lister at The National Theatre's 'Green Room'. And with an Express Lunch Menue of their own you can choose between a Prawn Po'Boy with spicy slaw; The Express Burger or Seitan & Shitaki mushroom salad with quinoa & peanut dressing. With gluten free and vegan alternatives taken for, it should take any stress of finding somewhere suited to everyone's dietary needs.

Served every weekday between midday and 3pm, you can get any one of these delicious offerings for just £10 and if you really feel like treating yourself, add a dessert option for only £3 more. And when the weather behaves itself, you can sit back and relax in their sustainable garden.
