Our Mural in Waterloo Station
Over the past couple of months, we have been working with illustration collective, Animaux Circus to create a mural inside Waterloo Station. Our generous friends at Network Rail kindly offered us an advertising space in one of the arches between M&S and Monsoon. When deliberating about how to use it, we thought, why not create something interesting, something people will look at, not just another advert to ignore.
So, we set about trying to find artists to collaborate with. When we came across Animaux Circus, we were impressed by their inventive use of murals; they were once commissioned to paint a marriage proposal on an east London street, other projects include painting the interior and exterior of Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch, and taking part in the East London Mobile Workshop. We knew their playful style was for us.
Last week, after lots of health and safety briefings and having donned their high vis jackets, Animaux Circus began to paint. The product of three night’s work in a deserted Waterloo station (and on very little sleep) is this beautiful mural that perfectly captures South Bank’s festival spirit. Flick through the images below to see how the project came to life, and the wonderful end product.
Thanks, Animaux Circus!
