One Hour in South Bank

May 21st, 2019 | by Ella Stern

One Hour in South Bank

Time to kill between meetings or just want to freshen up your lunch break? Well step away from the computer screen and go and explore. Here’s how to make the most of a spare hour…that doesn’t involve you scrolling through Instagram or checking emails!

  • See an exhibition at the National Theatre

See a different side to the National Theatre and pop into one of their free exhibitions. Currently showing is ‘Costume', which delves into, you guessed it, the tremendous efforts undertaken by the National Theatre's costume department over the years. Not only does it offer a great insight into the process and production that the department go through, such as design and construction, but it's also great to pop in andsimpy admire some of their work. There are a number of fantastic examples included in the exhibition from actual National Theatre plays, such as War HorseAnthony and Cleopatra and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

    From 4 October / FREE

But if you do feel like popping in, having a mooch and browse through the brilliant National Theatre shop is an easy way to spend an hour, as is just relaxing on one of their cushioned chairs in the foyer and admiring the Grade II listed, inspiring Brutalist architecture.
