Help Transform Bernie Spain Gardens

If you have ever visited, worked, or lived in South Bank, chances are you've taken some time to stroll or sit down in Bernie Spain Gardens. Nestled between Oxo Tower Wharf and Gabriel's Wharf, Bernie Spain Gardens is an oasis of green by the riverside and the perfect place to relax or have a picnic.

To ensure Bernie Spain Gardens remains an accessible green space for all, the team at Coin Street are looking for people to sign their name in support to help transform the northern part of the gardens into a sustainable "Pollinator Gardens", where visitors and the local community can spend time and interact with nature.

An urban oasis

Now more than ever, visitors and local communities alike need access to green spaces to maintain wellbeing and health. Spaces such as Bernie Spain Gardens are vital, offering sanctuary to residents, workers and visitors to escape the business and hustle of central London.

Where nature meets the city

The Gardens also offer escape and relaxation for workers on their lunch break and locals who don’t have their own gardens or balconies. To ensure the garden remains an accessible green space for workers, residents and visitors in the years to come, plans have been drawn up to transform the northern most sections of the Garden.

Based on consultations with local people who use the Gardens and designed by landscape architects West 8, the proposed “Pollinator Garden” will focus on biodiversity, sustainability and community. These designs' pollinator gardens will feature an abundance of nectar and pollen-rich flowers, and also create the ideal habitat for foraging, shelter and nesting for birds, bees, butterflies and moths throughout the seasons.

The team from Coin Street, who manage and look after Bernie Spain Gardens, are seeking council and mayoral funding to cover the cost of transforming and extending Bernie Spain Gardens north. Signing your name in support will make it possible to get that funding and transform the Gardens into a sustainable space for visitors, residents and workers alike.
