Meet Miss Nightingale
'A Visit with Miss Nightingale' - The Session
The Museum offers educational sessions to primary schools to support Key Stage 1, year 2, unit 4 - 'Why do we remember Florence Nightingale?'
Your class will be welcomed to the Museum by an actress in role as Miss Nightingale and experience a 30 minute performance. Miss Nightingale describes her life, why she went to the Crimea, how she made it better for the soldiers and nurses, and what happened as a result of her work.
Following the performance, your class will take part in self led activities throughout the Museum - "Discovering Florence". Miss Nightingale will also be on hand to assist with these. If time allows at the end, Miss Nightingale will show your class a replica Crimean nurses' and a soldiers' uniform, which can be tried on.
Discovering Florence Activity Sheets
Discovering Florence consists of three hands-on activities which are placed around the Museum. The activities support the QCA Scheme of Work, Unit 4 'Why do we remember Florence Nightingale?'. Children have the opportunity to handle real and replica objects, look at photographs and prints, while working through a series of worksheets to learn more about the life of Florence Nightingale.
