Made In Britain

Last year, the British Film Institute made a commitment to exploring contemporary British cinema.

This year's season celebrates Warp Films, a Sheffield based company that started life as an electronic music label. Now in it's 24th year, they quickly expanded and in 2006 set up Warp X, a sister company dedicated to digital, low-budget filmmaking, established with the backing of a consortium of industry bodies.

The first wave of projects caused a stir and demonstrated the diversity of approach, but it was in 2006 with Shane Meadows’ second Warp Films feature, 'This is England,' that the company found its breakthrough success.

Warp Films now have a whole host of hits under their belt; those showing at BFI Southbank include Submarine, Four Lions, Tyrannosaur, Berberian Sound Studio, and many more.
