Mulled wine, cocktails, street food, winter terraces, fine dining, alpine dining, snow globes and igloos... With so many fantastical options to choose from, we've rounded up the top ten experiences in South Bank this year to help you out.

  • Southbank Centre’s Winter Market

Where else to begin than the annual Southbank Centre Winter Market? It may be smaller this year, but it still packs a punch, with their traditional chalet stalls serving up a mixture of hearty winter grub, drinks plus independent designers selling seasonal goodies, all from beneath Hungerford Bridge. Pick up a mulled wine, cider, hot toddie or a steaming mug of hot choc and continue your stroll down the Queens Walk to see the stunning Winter Light installations Southbank Centre have laid on, especially the mesmerising Illuminated Trees from David Ogle. Food wise, you're spoilt for choice, pick up a gourmet fondue cheese toastie from Meltsmiths, one of Duckshed's famous duck burgers, smoked sausage and sauerkraut stew from The Polish Deli and for those of you with a sweet tooth, then make sure to make a beeline for the Dutch Pancake stall!

  • Soak Up the South Bank at Jimmy's

For a true festive South Bank experience, no one does things quite like Jimmy's. Known for his mouthwatering BBQ's and alfresco dining throughout the summer, November and December sees the set up swap to the iconic igloos or 'snow globes' that dot along Queens Walk in front of Queen Elizabeth Hall up to Waterloo Bridge. Booking for the snow globes is essential and always sell out fast, so hurry to secure yours! However, if last minute plans are more your thing, the hot cocktail and street food bar serves up more Alpine delights, such as the sensational Raclette Burgers and Wild Boar hot dogs served up in a heated bar and covered from the elements.

The ever popular 12th Knot rooftop bar at Sea Containers has this year taken inspiration from Icelandic landscapes and the Northern Lights to give their balcony a wintery makeover. You don't much better views than this in the capital and it's well worth braving the cold for one of their new bespoke vodka based cocktails in collaboration with Reyka Vodka of Iceland. There's even faux-fur blankets for you to cosy up in so you can enjoy the views of the Thames and beyond in comfort too.

Now there’s been a winter makeover with four heated undercover venues. Throughout the festive period there’ll be drag brunches, live DJ’s, Christmas cocktails and craft beers, street food and live screenings of holiday favourites.
