House of Vans, located in the Old Vic Tunnels at London Waterloo is THE place to practice your skateboarding skills, see exciting experimental art exhibitions, listen to banging new music, and catch quirky flicks – and now you can also catch a bite to eat!
The unique venue now plays host to a cool new restaurant and bar - The Wall SE1, which in its own words, “burst onto the South London culinary scene in a cloud of burger smoke, coffee grounds, blood, sweat and tears”.
Inspired by New York diners and tying in with House of Vans’ “off the wall” spirit, The Wall SE1 serves American style fast food cooked with fresh, quality local produce. Expect a menu comprising of piping hot sweet potato fries that are crispy on the outside and deliciously soft and gooey on the inside with a wickedly smoky chipotle mayo and a selection of burgers including the Pulled Piggy – slow cooked pork shoulder, served with coleslaw and a toasted bun, as well as a plentiful brunch menu, well stocked wine cellar and selection of beers and sodas...
If you fancy something fancy, check out the cocktails, which include a Jamaican or Russian Mule, a Pilgrim father, or The Wall’s own concoction made with Blackdown Cellars Vodka/ Gin, fresh lemon, pomegranate and apple juice and elderflower served long over ice and a lemon wedge garnish.
The Wall SE1 is managed by Ian Ballantyne, an increasingly respected authority in the London food and drink scene. His passion for baking and flair for cross-continental cooking is most definitely evident in the menu’s delicious daily-baked goodies, as well as the restaurant’s edgy, fresh style and unique surroundings.
