Mondrian London

Mondrian London
design hotel

Mondrian London

Seductive and striking, Mondrian London at Sea Containers is a new hotel in London's South Bank, bringing a bold new energy to the area, blending the style and sophistication of the boutique brand with South Bank's artistic vibe. Situated on the banks of the River Thames in the famed Sea Containers building, Mondrian London uniquely offers river view balcony suites directly on the Thames. Working under the creative direction of renowned British designer Tom Dixon, the Mondrian hotel captures the essence of the original building, exuding 1920's cruise ship glamour integrated with the modern twists and sophisticated design for which the Mondrian brand is known.

Guests will immediately be drawn to the giant, copper-clad wall inspired by the hull of a ship, running from outside the building, through to the lobby and on to the river side of the hotel. Experience underwater tranquility and specialised treatments at agua Bathhouse & Spa, sample delicious food using locally sourced ingredients at Sea Containers restaurant, where outdoor seating along the river walk is also available, and sample innovative cocktails from Mr Lyan at Dandelyan with its iconic green marble bar and dramatic views of the Thames.

The most glamorous of spaces is Mondrian London's rooftop bar, Rumpus Room, with its glass box structure and outdoor terrace, featuring panoramic views over London. Uniquely reflecting the urban feel of the South Bank neighbourhood, Mondrian London is within walking distance of landmarks such as Southbank Centre, the National Theatre, as well as the Coca-Cola London Eye.

Did You Know?

  • Looking out over the Thames, with open views of the city’s rapidly changing skyline, the 1978 Sea Containers House building, which has echoes of a great cruise liner berthed on the river’s edge, was designed by the celebrated American modernist architect Warren Platner ( renowned for his ocean liner interiors.)

  • It took over one year to construct the copper hull with marine ply, where each and every copper shingle, together with tens of thousands of copper rivets, were hand painted to create an intentionally aged finish. 160,000 nails were used to construct the copper hull.
