At the Old Vic
Celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix has recently opened his first stand-alone bar at The Old Vic!
Mark’s Bar stays open until 2am Thursday to Saturday, making it the ideal place for late-night drinking in Waterloo. Located at the Dress Circle and Upper Circle bars, its cocktail list of historical curiosities makes it one of the more eccentric watering holes in the city. There is also a selection of craft beers and wines by the glass to choose from.
The eclectic design includes an illustration by Chris Martin, wallpaper by Mat Collishaw, the famous Mark’s Bar neon by Tim Nobel and Sue Webster and details such as smoky mirrors, ambient lighting, an assortment of furniture and an apothecary cocktail bar.
Mark’s Bar is open to Old Vic ticket holders from 6pm and then to the public after the evening’s performance, closing at 1am Mon-Wed and 2am Thu-Sat. Customers attending the show are invited to pre-order cocktails for the interval from the shortened cocktail menu.
Cocktails include the Hix Fix, (Temperley cherry and apple eau de vie topped up with Taittinger champagne), Vic’s Punch (Beefeater gin, green chartreuse, balanced with sweet and sour, topped with soda water) or the Dorset Donkey (pure black cow milk vodka, seasonal berries, sage, cherry brandy and citrus, topped up with ginger ale).
