An Interview With Warren Campbell, General Manager at 15Hatfields
A host of extrodinary people can be found behind the walls our venues here on South Bank. The South Bank Venues editorial team tracked down the charismatic Warren Campbell, General Manager of London's most sustainable venue 15Hatfields, for a quick chat about his life working in the events industry.
How long have you worked in the events industry? Since completing my degree in Hotel Management at the age of 21.
What is the most challenging part of your job? Interpreting clients expectations and ultimately delivering successful events that exceed those expectations!
What has been the highlight of your career so far? Launching 15Hatfields in April 2008 and being at the forefront of London’s sustainable events industry ever since.
What does a normal day at the office look like for you? No two days are the same at 15Hatfields, but most include answering lots of enquiries, ensuring whichever client using the venue has what they need and working closely with my team to develop our brand.
If a client came to you with your dream brief what would it look like? I’ve already done it – launching the legal sector alliance with Prince Charles.
And conversely, how can you tell a good client prospect from one with nightmare potential? Organisation.
What’s the quirkiest event you have been asked to organise? We were asked to host a Winter Wonderland Christmas party, complete with 17 live reindeer!
If you could give potential clients one advice when searching for a venue what would it be? Know your brief, and be sure of what you are trying to achieve before looking for venues. Knowing approximate numbers and dates also helps!
If you were to choose a venue for your perfect event (which is not 15Hatfields!) which one would pick? The Garden at Buckingham Palace because it is a mini oasis in the centre of London.
Is there a secret ingredient or skill vital to the events professional? You have to be cool, calm and charismatic.
And if you were to give career tips to someone who wants to make it in the event industry, what would you say? Make sure you understand the complexities of the industry, know which sector you want to work in before gaining as much experience as you can to hone your skills!
